I’ll start by saying that I do not believe climate change is a hoax. Many on the left like to
say that about anyone who even remotely doubts their all-seeing eye for the planet’s
future. But that does not mean that I take what the United Nations Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says hook, line and sinker. Climate change science and
policy requires nuance and finesse, lest we as a world make serious mistakes
economically and ecologically. I am a strong advocate for our environment, but I am
unwilling to hinder the progress of improving life for everyone on the planet.
Policies can be put in place where we are both stewards of the environment and conduits
for the development of nations and the advancement of prosperity for all mankind.
Climate change is a real phenomenon. It’s proven, through history and science, to be a
very natural, and quite possibly man-made occurrence. The jury is still out on the role
humans actually play in climate change. We know there is an impact. The debate lies in
the actual level of the impact man has on earth’s climate. How much of it is influenced
by humans? How much by the sun? How much by the earth’s natural cycles? All of these
questions have not been definitively answered, despite what all the politicians and
Chicken Littles of the world would have you think.
The Left has created and is pushing a plan to help “combat” climate change through a
complete restructuring of the American economic system and a phase shift, of sorts, to a
socialistic economy and lifestyle. This new plan, the Green New Deal (GND), is a
travesty on its face and after reading the resolution put through Congress, it’s a utopian
dream that will never, and should never, be achieved. Over the next few posts, I am
going to go through the GND and discuss many of the finer points that are missed by the
media and politicians trying to pump their content and policies.
Let’s start with the first page of what I call an atrocity. House Resolution 109, put forth
by the esteemed Congresswoman from New York, Ms. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and
many other left-leaning democratic co-signers, takes its cues from the October 2018
Report by the IPCC to the United Nations, and the 2018 Climate Assessment. The
United Nations has not served the best interests of the world for a very long time. It has
shown how corrupt an institution it can be, and I have reservations about the accuracy
of this report. That being said, there are things in the resolution I agree with, and many
things that I don’t.
Let’s start from the beginning: “(1) human activity is the dominant cause of observed climate
change over the past century;” We have to look if that is the entire cause (the left believes
humans are the evil scourge on mother earth), a partial cause (which is my hypothesis as well
as many scientists and normal thinking people), or no cause at all (only the wild Right wingers
believe this). Is human activity the dominant reason or climate change?
This question isn’t definitively answered and will never be, in my opinion, despite
politicians and their efforts to tell us that climate change is all man made and 97% of
scientists agree. The 97% number is false and has been taken out of context by
politicians to serve their political ends. Alex Epstein, in a piece for Forbes magazine,
debunked where politicians like former President Obama and former Secretary of State
and now President Joe Biden’s Climate Czar, John Kerry, get their data and how flawed
it really is. 97% of scientists claim humans have some impact, but that could be a 1%
impact to a more than 50% impact, which in no way helps in actually identifying what
the true impact is so we can enact effective climate and energy policy. And this is where I
become skeptical of any politicians or scientists or alarmists. The manipulation of data is
disconcerting and alarming.
